Carbon Mobile Moves Carbon Fiber Smartphone Production to Sustainability
The Carbon 1 MK II sustainable smartphone demonstrates Carbon Mobile's commitment to sustainability to the world. In partnership with Ingram Micro, a provider of business and lifecycle services, the company is further investing in sustainability by moving to a redesigned former Motorola production facility in Flensburg, Germany, to reduce emissions while improving quality.
The Carbon 1 MK II smartphone is manufactured using HyRECM technology, Carbon Mobile's wireless carbon fiber composite that eliminates connectivity issues. The phone weighs just 125 grams and is thin, at 6.3 mm in thickness, with a 3,000 mAh battery.
According to Carbon Mobile founder and CEO Firas Khalifeh, "Using advanced materials is a necessary first step in ending the e-waste cycle. the Carbon 1 MK II features a unique lightweight monolithic case body that is 33% lighter than the average smartphone. If all devices were manufactured in this way, the industry could save 100,000 tons of the earth's resources each year."
"We are committed to sustainability and quality in the production of smartphones in Europe," said Mr. Khalifeh. "With the new production site in Germany, we can further reduce emissions from device production and transportation and create new jobs in the coming years. ingram Micro already operates smartphone repair shops and can therefore introduce the full range of our technology into production. For us, these are the best conditions to jointly revitalize the city of Flensburg as a smartphone production site."
Carbon Mobile is also committed to producing the first plastic-neutral smartphone in cooperation with Cleanhub, which collects 500 grams of plastic from ocean waste for every Carbon 1 MK II sold. The company plans to use bio-based carbon fiber in future phones.
The Carbon 1 MK II is available at a new lower price of 599 euros. 150 Carbon 1 MK II smartphones have already been successfully produced by Carbon Mobile.
