High-end carbon fibre in short supply
According to the introduction, carbon fiber is a carbon content of more than 90% of the inorganic fiber, with a light weight, high strength, high modulus, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, resistance to scouring and sputtering and good designability, compoundability and other characteristics, widely used in aerospace, marine engineering, new energy equipment, engineering machinery and other industries, is a strategic new materials with broad application prospects.
Specifically, in 2020, the combined demand in the four major sectors of global wind power blades, aerospace, sports and leisure and automotive is worth US$1.995 billion, accounting for 76.3% of the global carbon fiber market size.
According to the data of Neo Carbon Fiber, the global demand for carbon fiber will increase to 106,900 tons in 2020 and is expected to reach 200,000 tons in 2025, with a compound annualized growth rate of 13.35%. The demand for carbon fiber in China will be 48,900 tons in 2020 and is expected to reach 149,000 tons in 2025, with a compound annualized growth rate of 25.1%.
At present, China's carbon fibers are still mainly imported on the demand side, but the proportion of domestic carbon fibers is increasing. 81.6% of the overall demand for imported carbon fibers in China in 2016, and this proportion drops to 62.1% in 2020.
"The rapid increase in demand will drive the expansion of China's carbon fiber market size, especially the high-performance carbon fiber applied in the aerospace field will become the main source of growth in the domestic market." A carbon fiber industry source said that, according to relevant forecasts, the domestic market, the proportion of domestic carbon fiber is expected to exceed that of imported carbon fiber by 2025.
