McLaren Establishes New Carbon Composite Technology Center

McLaren created a new carbon fiber composite technology center in Sheffield and used two of the most extreme machines for live demonstrations.

The demonstration was held in the New York headquarters building, which will produce carbon fiber bathtubs for the supercar manufacturer McLaren Motors from 2019. This demonstration witnessed the appearance of the recently announced McLaren Senna supercar in front of the live audience .

The track-focused machine "christened" the donuts with fresh Pirelli rubber, and sitting next to it was an MP4/5 Formula One car (driven by Ayrton Senna in 1989).

This event is the first time the public has learned about the McLaren Composites Technology Center (MCTC), which will be the first production facility for a manufacturer outside of Woking when it opens next year.

After MCTC is fully operational, the production plant will employ approximately 200 employees.

Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive, said:

"To everyone at McLaren Automotive, today is an important and exciting milestone, and it is also a personal honor. When we open the McLaren Composites Technology Center later this year, we will officially launch McLaren's logo."

"This marks the continued development of currently 2,100 strong companies and will bring new job opportunities to the Sheffield area, which has a close connection with advanced materials; first is steel, now McLaren Hope for the future of carbon fiber innovation and production."
